Wednesday Vignette - the pollinators have arrived!

I showed this huge, crazy Salvia (S. desoleana) for Bloom Day last week, noting that it didn't seem to be attracting pollinators. Well, how that has changed! This week bees, wasps and butterflies seem to hover around it constantly. One big bee has been vigorously defending "his" flowers - even against me - so much so that I couldn't get a picture of him.

In honor of last week's celebration of #PollinatorWeek, and because I think every week ought to be pollinator week, this is my image for Wednesday Vignette, hosted by the delightful Anna, of Flutter and Hum.

  1. Oh Jane - that's wonderful! I remember thinking that it was strange when I read that it wasn't attracting pollinators. Maybe it just hadn't made all the goodies available yet? Interesting that the bee was chasing even you away... By the way - I agree. I too think every week should be Pollinator Week!

  2. How funny that the big bee was chasing even you away. Most of the time the bumbles in my garden ignore me, even when I walk through the field of California poppies where they are having a feasting orgy.

  3. I like my steaks aged...maybe the bees feel that way about the flowers.

  4. It looks just like my S. Turkistanica. My bees are crazy for the Poppies and Eryngiums at the moment .
